The name of Gradsko came from the
village Gradsko which is 2 kilometers away, on the east from the new
settlement. It is situated on the railway station
Thessaloniki-Gradsko. But if we talk about the origin of the
village’s name Gradsko, it has been taken from ancient settlement
Stobi, which is 3 kilometers on the east from the village. After
disastrous earthquake in 518 BC, ancient settlement Stobi was
demolished and devastated. That was the reason why locals gave the
name Deserted Town (Pust Grad), which was accepted by the
inhabitants of the Gradsko village. The adjective Deserted (Pust)
has fallen off later. The name Town (Grad) received a suffix and now
it’s well known as Gradsko... |
