For the first time Stobi was
mentioned in the second half of 19 century by the German explorer
Halm in 1850 and his French colleague L. Heze in 1860. The first
archeological planned and systematic researches started the Museum
of Belgrade in 1924 to 1936 (period of Serbian rule in Macedonia).
Many valuable samples were found in that time. Then the researches
goes on with stops until 1941, when the Second World War started.
The biggest part of the samples have been taken away in the Public
museum of Belgrade, so they’re still there although they are
property of Macedonian people.
The Public museum of Macedonia started with excavations in 1952.
Since 1972, archeologists have done many regular researches in that
region.
